Initial render of a bar cart we’re designing for a client. Frame will be bent, brushed steel tubes with a clear finish. Tubes will be TIG brazed with silicon bronze, which leaves a gold-colored ‘weld’ at the joints, which will provide an accent to match the brass top. Panels will be plywood with teak veneer.
The client provided these bronze-look steel casters and an antique brass latch. The rest of this bar cart design was left up to us.
The client provided this cast brass latch. It came from Romania via eBay. It was possibly a window latch.
Flat file riser
Brendan's Flat File riser
Flat files are a necessary part of a photographer’s tool kit, but they take up valuable floor space, and have a thin, often dented, metal top that isn’t a great surface to work on, especially at knee height! This flat file riser and Formica work surface turn a flat file into an extension of the adjacent desk.
The joints at the mitered corners of the flat file riser are ground flush so that it the assembly looks like one piece of steel. We chose red to go with the racing stripes on the nearby desk panel.
I’m a big fan of these nickel-plated leveling feet. They let you adjust the position of the piece of furniture to align with the adjacent furniture, or to accommodate the unevenness of the floor. They have a smooth bottom so they won’t damage your floor finishes.
Carousel
Carousel
This Fusion 360 model and rendering was created based on a client’s verbal description of an art installation that we’re developing together. The carousel will be operated by the handwheel, which will drive the carousel’s rotating platform.
Vinyl Rack
Vinyl rack
This quick and dirty project was completed in 2019. The birch plywood was cut to my design in a CNC router, sanded and finished with clear polyurethane, and attached to the wall using adhesive and drywall anchors. Tubes are galvanized EMT conduit.
BMW 2002 Door Cards
BMW 2002 door cards
Thanks to the Lesley University Technical Drawing students for measuring up the hole locations from a spare BMW 2002 door. Missed a few holes, but most were right on target!
The old door card and the new panel, side by side. The new panel was cut from 3mm expanded PVC foam sheet on CNC Router. The hole locations from the students’ layout takeoff were pretty close, but some adjustments needed to be made, of course. We note the location change vectors right on the card for the next iteration.
Go-Fast desk top
Striped Formica Desk Panel
We needed more desk space, and had some Formica and Baltic birch scraps laying around. None of the Formica scrap was large enough to do the desk, so had no choice but to race it up with some stripes! Figured we’d chip up the edges laying the five pieces together, but they all fell into place perfectly.
The first and last time this desk would not be covered with office stuff! The desktop panel is supported on one end by filing cabinets and supported in the corner on steel brackets cantilevered off the desk.

CX 500 Scrambler Gallery
Love the CX, but wanted a Scrambler.
Sand bending tubing for rear subframe hoop.
New custom subframe bolted up to the remaining factory frame tube.
Spent WAY too much time making these arched seat supports.
